Being a Mum Far From Home Can Feel Lonely at Times
Being a mum far from home, in a foreign country
can feel… quietly lonely sometimes
Not always in a loud, obvious way
But in the small, in-between moments
When the house is still
When your child finally naps
And you realise… it’s just you
Raising a child without a village isn’t easy
There are no familiar voices around the corner
No quick calls to family who can pop by
No extra hands reaching in when you’re exhausted
No one stepping in so you can pause… even just for a moment
Some days, it feels like everything rests on your shoulders
The decisions
The emotions
The responsibility
The endless giving
And in between all that…
You’re still trying to find yourself in a place that doesn’t fully feel like home yet
So you figure it out, day by day
Learning as you go
Holding it together the best you can
Even when you feel unsure
Even when you feel a little lost
And sometimes…
It can feel even heavier when the person beside you
Doesn’t quite see things the way you do
If this is you, I want you to know something gently, honestly—
You are not alone 💜
There are so many mums out there
Walking this same quiet path
Holding so much inside
Doing so much, unseen
And maybe…
You are stronger than you give yourself credit for
Because even without the village
Even without everything you thought you would have
Your child still has something incredibly powerful
They have you
Your love
Your effort
Your presence
Your warmth on the hard days
Your patience (even when it runs thin)
Your hugs that make everything feel safe again
And that… is more than enough
To the real you
The imperfect, trying-your-best, even when you're doubting yourself —
Please be kind to yourself
You don’t have to have it all together
You don’t have to do it perfectly
You don’t have to carry everything without feeling tired
You are already doing so much more than you think
And one day…
You’ll look back at this season
Not just at how your child has grown
But at how you have, too
Stronger
Softer
Wiser in ways no one else can see
You didn’t just raise your child
You grew alongside them
And that version of you—
The one who kept going, even when it was hard—
She is someone to be so proud of
